SAATI welcomes local students into the world of Weaving
On Thursday, June 19, SAATI opened the doors of its Appiano Gentile headquarters to 17 children from the local primary school as part of the summer learning program “Nel mio paese c’è un posto speciale” ("In My Town, There's a Special Place").
Accompanied by their teachers and welcomed by SAATI colleagues—who became “special mentors” for a day—the children explored one of the most iconic crafts of the Como region: weaving.
They touched threads, watched looms in motion, asked questions, and discovered what it means to transform raw materials into high-performance fabrics. It was more than a visit—it was an experience designed to connect the next generation with the roots of local know-how and the innovative future of the textile industry.
This initiative also supports SAATI’s broader commitment to promoting STEM education, especially for young girls. Studies show that career interests start forming as early as age 6 or 7—making early exposure to science and technology crucial.
The event anticipates our upcoming initiative, “Scientists for a Day”, on June 26, where the children of SAATI employees will take part in interactive science-based activities inspired by our environmental project, RE-LAKE.
